Edit Access Control

The Access Control List (ACL) is used for setting user or group access permissions for your public and shared folders. To reach this page, select a folder on the Public Folder Manager (Setup » Public Folders » Public Folder Manager) or Shared Folders page and click Edit Access Control. The Access Control List displays all users and groups that have been granted some level of access to the associated shared folder, and each entry displays the level of access that has been granted. The access level is indicated by a one letter abbreviation for each Access Right granted to the user or group.

Adding or Editing Access Rights

To add a user or group to the folder's access control list and set the user's access rights, click New on the toolbar. To edit an existing user, select the user and click Edit.

For example, GROUP:MyGroup_1.

Help

Click Help to display a list of the access rights and their definitions.

Applying Access Rights to Sub-folders

On the Access Control List, click Apply to sub-folders if you wish to replace all sub-folder group and user access rights with the parent folder's current rights. The child folder access rights will then be identical to the parent folder.

Access rights are controlled through MDaemon's support for Access Control Lists (ACL). ACL is an extension to the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4), which makes it possible for you to create an access list for each of your IMAP message folders, thus granting folder access rights to other users who also have accounts on your mail server. If your email client doesn't support ACL you can still set the permissions via the controls on this dialog.

ACL is fully discussed in RFC 2086, which can be viewed at: http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc2086.txt.
