Message Search

The Message Search page is used to search a user's mailbox for specific messages. You can search for specific text in several message headers and fields: Subject, From, Recipients, Attachment name, and Message-ID. You can also specify a date-range for your search, or search all dates. Any messages meeting the search's criteria will be displayed in a list below. Double-click any message to open it in a Message View window.

Searching an Account's Mailbox

To perform a message search:

1.In the Choose a domain option, select the domain on which the desired account resides.

2.Select an account in the Choose a user mailbox to search option (global administrators can choose All Mailboxes).

3.In the Keyword field, enter the exact string of text for which you wish to search. For example, if there are a number of messages from, "Harcourt Fenton Mudd," those messages would be found if you searched the From header for: "Harcourt Fenton Mudd", "Harcourt", "Fenton", "Mudd", "Harcourt Fenton", or "Fenton Mudd". A Search for "Harcourt Mudd" would yield "No Results".

4.Choose the headers and fields you wish to search: Subject, From, Recipients, Attachment name, or Message-ID.

5.Under Date Range, check the box labeled Search all dates if you do not wish to limit the search to a specific date range. Otherwise, uncheck that box and enter a From date and To date. You can use the drop-down calendar tool to pick the dates, or you can manually enter the dates in the YYYY-MM-DD format.

6.Press Enter, or click Search.

Note: click Refresh if you wish to start over. This will clear the search fields and message list. You can control which columns are displayed in the message list by clicking the buttons at the top of the page (e.g. Mailbox, Folder, Filename, and so on).

Viewing a Message

To view a message, double-click the message in the list, or click the message and click View Message. The message will be opened in the Message View window. Click Logs in the Message View to view any recent log entries regarding the message.

Deleting a Message

To delete a message from a user's mailbox, select a message in the list and click Delete.
